Culture Course
This is a two-day, one-night course to experience the culture of Hanamaki.
Day 1

Hanamaki City Comprehensive Cultural Property Center

This facility gathers all the buried cultural property materials in Hanamaki City in one place, permanently stores them, conducts research and sorting, and serves as a base for disseminating information and protecting the city's cultural properties. It is also a comprehensive facility that transfers the valuable materials from the Mountain Museum and also plays the role of an exhibition and storage facility.
The permanent exhibits are divided into four themes, covering Hayachine's nature, culture, history, and people, and are presented in an easy-to-understand manner using videos, models, photographs, and other materials.
There is also an exhibition of Jomon and Yayoi period ruins and excavated items as archaeological materials from Hanamaki.

Hayachine Shrine

It is said that the shrine was first built on the summit of Hayachine by Minister of Hyobe Shigefusa, a descendant of Fujiwara Kamatari, in 807. During the feudal era, a shrine building was constructed under the patronage of Lord Nanbu Toshinao. The existing main hall retains the solid techniques of the Keicho period, such as the framework centered on the inner sanctuary pillars, and the carvings and decorations around the eaves, and has been designated a tangible cultural property by the prefecture.

Nanbu Sake Master Brewer Museum

This building is a valuable historical and cultural property, constructed by dismantling and restoring an ancient sake brewery.
This facility preserves and passes on the traditional culture of sake brewing by the Nanbu Toji. Inside the building, sake brewing equipment, including preparation vats measuring about 2 meters in diameter, is on display, and videos are used to introduce the history of the Nanbu Toji and sake brewing in an easy-to-understand manner.
The building also has a sake tasting corner (fee required) where you can enjoy tasting a variety of sakes.
In addition, the sake you sample is also available for purchase at the adjacent "Sakashokan."

Takamura Kotaro Museum

The well-known sculptor and poet Takamura Kotaro moved to Yamaguchi Otamura (now Hanamaki City) at the age of 62 after the war, where he lived alone and cooked his own meals for about seven years.
The Takamura Kotaro Museum exhibits sculptures such as Kotaro's representative works "Hand" and "Maiden Statue - Medium-sized Prototype," as well as various materials left behind during his seven-year stay in Hanamaki, allowing visitors to experience Kotaro's worldview.

Takamura Sanso

Takamura Sanso is a hut where sculptor and poet Takamura Kotaro spent the last seven and a half years of his life.
In 1945, due to his connection with Miyazawa Kenji, Takamura Kotaro evacuated from Tokyo to the Miyazawa family home in what is now Hanamaki City. However, the Miyazawa family home was also burned down in an air raid on Hanamaki, so with the help of the local people he moved to this area, formerly the Yamaguchi district of Ota Village, where he lived a life of contemplation.

Marukan Building Cafeteria

For lunch, Marukan Building Cafeteria, a local favorite. This restaurant has a retro Showa-era atmosphere and serves ramen, sushi, Western food, and more.
The generous 10-layer roll of soft serve ice cream is eaten Hanamaki style with chopsticks.

Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum

This facility allows visitors to become familiar with the diverse world of Miyazawa Kenji's poetry, fairy tales, education, agriculture, science, and other activities.
Why not try experiencing the world of Ihatov for yourself?
In addition to the exhibits, the museum also houses a souvenir corner selling Miyazawa Kenji related goods and a cafe space.

Hanamaki City Museum

The museum exhibits and introduces the history, culture and lifestyle of the Hanamaki region from the Jomon period to the present day, including Jomon-style dwellings, ancient tombs, castle town scenes and Hanamaki dolls, divided into three areas: "Archaeology," "History," and "Arts and Crafts." It also holds lectures and hands-on learning sessions, aiming to be a participatory museum where visitors can learn while having fun.
